The Lexus car maker is coming back into the game with its all new 2018 Lexus LC 500 Coupe. The Company’s SC model has been on the market for almost two decades and it represented the brand’s leading two-door coupe model. Eventually, it has been upgraded with more power but its looks started to age. So, the new LC 500 Coupe is going to be fresh comeback.
The upcoming LC 500 will arrive with much improved chassis. This luxury coupe will bring attractive and powerful exterior styling too. Under the hood, there will be a strong V-8 engine with excellent performance. However, besides the traditional unit, there will also be the LC 500h version which will be powered with a hybrid engine which will show excellent fuel efficiency. However, the car maker didn’t pay much attention to the roominess since the passengers, precisely those in the rear seats, might feel a bit tight.
Its key rivals on the market will be Jaguar XF, Cadillac ATS-V, Mercedes-Benz SL Class, BMW 6-Series and Mercedes-Benz S Class.
2018 Lexus LC 500 Coupe engine and performance
The 2018 Lexus LC 500 Coupe will be powered with a strong V-8 drivetrain which also powers the RC F and GS F models. It is a 5.0-liter V-8 naturally aspirated engine. This unit is able to develop 471 horsepower and 389 pound-feet of torque. The engine pairs with a 10-speed automatic gearbox. Its top speed is limited to 168 mph while it is able to hit 60 mph in just 4.4 seconds. As for the fuel efficiency, the 500 Coupe gets 16 mpg in the city, 26 mpg on the highway and 19 mpg combined.
Platform, exterior and interior design
The 2018 Lexus LC 500 Coupe will ride on the new platform which also underpins the latest LS sedan. Its chassis is made of high-strength steel, aluminum and carbon fiber which provides strong body but it is not so lightweight. Nevertheless, the new LC will be easy to handle.
When it comes to the external appearance, the new Lexus LC 500 Coupe might be one of the brand’s best-designed vehicles on the road. It looks very handsome and powerful with sharp and angular lines all over the body. The massive, black mesh grille dominates the front fascia; and there is also a pair of narrow and sharp LED headlamps. The rear end is also perfectly sculpted with unique design of the LED taillights and dual chrome exhaust outlets. The new LC will ride on 20- or 21-inch wheels.
Inside, the 2018 Lexus LC 500 Coupe won’t offer that much space as expected. The front seats are very cozy and supportive but the rear ones are a bit tight. However, the seats are upholstered in quality leather in all trims.
The dashboard will feature a 10.13-inch display with infotainment system. Unfortunately, the company won’t offer Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity. The standard equipment will include Bluetooth, a Pioneer audio system, power features, a rearview camera, active lane control, adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning etc. Among optional features, there will be heated steering wheel, Mark Levinson audio system with 13 speakers and so on.
