The Lexus car maker has introduced the all new flagship of its lineup. It is the 2018 Lexus LS which will arrive with many changes and upgrades. This full size sedan will be available in three versions: the LS 500 which will arrive with all- and rear-wheel drive systems, the LS 500 Sport and the hybrid trim called LS 500h.
The 2018 model year will now ride on the new platform and compared to the current model, it is going to be significantly larger. In the engine department, there will also be some upgrades including the engine and replacement of the old 8-speed gearbox for the new 10-speed one. Inside the cabin, we will notice updated infotainment system, more functions for the seats etc. Generally, the upcoming LS will be more luxurious than its forerunner in almost every segment.
Its main competitors will be Cadillac CT6, BMW 7-Series, Jaguar XJ and Mercedes-Benz S Class.
2018 Lexus LS engines and performances
The 2018 Lexus LS will arrive with several types of engines under its hood. The first will be the new unit which will replace the previous V-8. It is a 3.5-liter V-6 twin-turbo with direct injection which is able to make 415 horses and 442 pound-feet of torque. This engine will pair with the new 10-speed automatic gearbox. It will be available with either all- or rear-wheel drive configurations. Its top speed will be 136 mph and will be able to hit 60 mph in only 4.6 seconds.
On the other hand, the hybrid version will be powered with a 3.5-liter V-6 and two electric motors. There will also be a lithium-ion battery of 44 kWh. This drivetrain will be mated to a 4-speed automatic transmission. All together, they will have the output of 354 horsepower. Its top speed will be the same as in the standard model and it will reach 60 mph in around 5.1 seconds.
Design of exterior and interior
The new 2018 Lexus LS will look absolutely stunning. The whole body will be perfectly sculpted and very elegant. The front end will be dominated by the large brand’s well-known grille and a pair of z-shaped headlamps. Furthermore, the new LS will ride on the new GA-L platform also used in the LC coupe which will make it much larger than its forerunner. It will ride on standard 19-inch wheels while it will also be available with larger 20-inch ones.
Inside, the 2018 Lexus LS will offer more spacious cabin because of the extended wheelbase. This will make it more comfortable than before too. All the seats are very cozy and provide excellent room. They are covered with premium leather as well. The cargo space is also very generous. The dashboard will feature the standard 12.3-inch touchscreen with latest infotainment system which supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
As for the equipment, it comes standard with navigation, cruise control, Bluetooth, audio with 12 speakers, USB, active noise cancellation, climate control etc. Some of the safety feature included will be forward collision warning, lane departure warning, automatic high beams, adaptive cruise control and so on.
Release date and price
The 2018 Lexus LS should arrive later this year and will go on sale in the beginning of 2018. Its price will be in a range from roughly $75,000 to $100,000.
