The Toyota’s legendary SUV with great off-road capability, exquisite styling and quality interior is ready to hit the market. It is the new 2018 Toyota 4Runner. This attractive off-roader is dimensionally smaller than the large Sequoia model and provides great driving comfort and various modern features. However, the new Toyota won’t show such good fuel efficiency and handling and it will arrive with a bit limited safety systems.
The new 2018 model year will appear with more option packages and new exterior colors. It will also be available in several trim levels. Those will include SR5, SR5 Premium, Limited, TRD off-Road, TRD Off-Road Premium and TRD Pro. Its main rivals will be Jeep Wrangler Unlimited, Dodge Durango, Subaru Outback, Jeep Grand Cherokee and Lexus GX.
2018 Toyota 4Runner engine and performance
The 2018 Toyota 4Runner will be powered with one engine option under its hood. It is a 4.0-liter V-6 engine. This unit will be able to develop 270 horsepower and 278 pound-feet of torque. It will pair with a 5-speed automatic gearbox. The new 4Runner will be available with both rear- and all-wheel drive configurations. Speaking of the fuel economy, with all-wheel drive system it gets 17/20/28 mpg. With rear-wheel drive it is rated at 17 mpg in the city, 21 mpg highway and 18 mpg combined.
Design of exterior and interior
The 2018 Toyota 4Runner will feature its well-known rugged, boxy and handsome exterior styling. The front end is dominated by its recognizable grille and a pair of attractive LED headlamps. The rear end will receive unique styling with interesting curves and LED taillights. The standard model will ride on 17-inch matte grey alloy wheels while the higher trims will get 20-inch 6-spoke alloy wheels. The new Toyota will arrive with three new exterior colors which will include Super White, Midnight Black and Calvary Blue.
Inside, the 2018 Toyota 4Runner has three rows of seats and it is able to welcome up to seven passengers. The first and the second row offer sufficient room for all the occupants while the third row is a bit tight. The cargo space is also very good and the third row can split if needed more room. The seats are covered in cloth, synthetic and real leather depending on a trim level. The dashboard will feature a 6.1-inch touchscreen with Toyota’s Entune infotainment system.
As for the equipment, all the models come standard with Bluetooth, a rearview camera, keyless entry, a power liftgate, leather-wrapped steering wheel, 8-way power adjustable driver’s seat, stereo with seven speakers and so on. Furthermore, the SR5 Premium adds heated front seats, navigation, synthetic leather upholstery etc. Moving to the Limited, there will be ventilated front seats, dual-zone climate control, JBL audio system, real leather seats and so on.
As for the safety, the standard equipment will include 8 airbags, anti-lock brakes, a rearview camera, and stability control.
Release date and price
The 2018 Toyota 4Runner will be available later this year. The starting price is expected to be around $35,000.
