2018 Toyota 86: Price, Specs, GT

After the Scion model has been discontinued, the Japanese car maker has introduced the Toyota 86 which was basically a redesigned version of the FR-S sport. This time we are talking about the all new 2018 Toyota 86. What costumers love about this sports car is its attractive coupe design, quality and well-designed cabin and its affordable price. Although many would find the rear seats and space a bit tight, still the Toyota 86 provides sufficient comfort and it is suitable for every day drive.

For the 2018 model year, the 86 will be upgraded with changes in almost every segment. The exterior will feature adjustments of both front and rear fascias. The cabin will be improved with new materials. Furthermore, in the tech department, the new Toyota will add some new features for more comfort. Under the hood, it is expected to use the same drivetrain however we can expect more power this time.

Under the hood of the 2018 Toyota 86 will be fitted the same engine which powers the current model. So, there won’t be any radical changes compared to its forerunner. The power comes from a 2.0-liter inline-4 unit. This engine will now provide more horsepower and its total output will be 205 horsepower and 156 pound-feet of torque. The engine will pair with either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic transmission. The rear-wheel drive system will be standard. The new Toyota will be able to hit 60 mph in roughly 6.8 seconds.

As for the fuel efficiency, the 86 gets 21/28/24 mpg with manual gearbox. However, with an automatic, it is rated at 24/32/27 mpg in the city/highway/combined.

Design of exterior and interior

When it comes to exterior, the 2018 Toyota 86 will feature modern and attractive exterior. However, this time it will receive some changes which will mostly be visible on the front fascia. So, on the front, we will notice slightly revised and wider grille and new LED headlamps and turn signals. On the rear, there will be restyled LED taillights. Furthermore, both front and rear bumpers will be new also. In addition to this, we can expect a new design of the 17-inch alloy wheels.

Inside the 2018 Toyota 86 offers simple and functional cabin. Although it is not that spacious, there is plenty of room for the front passengers. However, the rear occupants might feel a bit tight so it is more convenient for smaller adults or even better for children. The dashboard will feature a standard 7.0-inch touchscreen with Pioneer audio system with 8 speakers. Among standard features, there will be automatic climate control, cruise control, remote keyless entry, voice control, a rearview camera and so on.

Release date and price

The 2018 Toyota 86 could make its debut sometime in the beginning of 2018. As for the price, it should be similar to the one of the current model which starts at around $26,000.
