The Toyota’s most iconic compact sedan is once again ready to hit the market with its recognizable styling, spacious cabin and excellent safety ratings. We are talking about the future 2018 Toyota Corolla. The Japanese sedan has gained the reputation of being one the most popular vehicles in its segment. It is relatively affordable gathering all the features it offers. Perhaps it is not the best looking or the top in its class, but it is definitively worth to check it out.
As the 2017 model year, the Corolla brought many upgrades including revised exterior, new special edition and more standard safety systems. As well, its interior has been refreshed too with new instrument panel and controls. So, the new 2018 model will arrive mostly unchanged. This time, there won’t be special edition trim, there will be more standard features including illuminated vanity mirrors and revised steering-wheel in some trims.
The main rivals of the new Corolla will be Honda Civic, Ford Focus, Chevrolet Cruze, Volkswagen Jetta and Hyundai Elantra. It will be available in several trim levels. Those are: L, LE, LE Eco, XLE, SE AND XSE trims.
2018 Toyota Corolla engine and performance
All the versions of the 2018 Toyota Corolla will be powered with one single engine. It will be a 1.8-liter inline-4 engine which will be able to produce 132 horsepower and 128 pound-feet of torque. This powertrain will pair with a continuously variable transmission but the SE trim could also be mated to a 6-speed manual. The LE Eco version will have slightly more power with 137 horses. As for the fuel economy, the base model gets 28 mpg in the city, 36 mpg on the highway and 32 mpg combined. The higher trims are rated at 28/35/31 mpg.
Design of exterior and interior
When it comes to exterior, the upcoming 2018 Toyota Corolla will arrive almost identical to the current model. The front end features well-known, thin grille and a pair of attractive headlamps which look a bit aggressive. The whole body is about sharp lines, edges which you either like it or not. The standard model rides on 15-inch wheels while the larger 16- and 17-inch wheels will be optional.
The interior of the 2018 Toyota Corolla is nicely done, sufficiently spacious and comfortable. The seats are cozy, supportive and upholstered in synthetic leather. All the occupants have sufficient head and legroom too. The dashboard features the standard 6.1-inch touchscreen with infotainment system. However, the higher trims will add the larger 7.0-inch display.
As for the equipment, the Corolla is very well equipped. Its gets USB, Bluetooth, air conditioning, adaptive cruise control, a rearview camera and power locks and windows as standard. Moving to the higher trims, it will be available with leather-wrapped steering wheel, navigation, heated front seats, premium audio and so on. As for the safety, the standard equipment includes lane departure warning, automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, automatic high beams etc.
