The Toyota’s iconic SUV which has been present on the market for over 60 years is once again ready to arrive as the new model year. It is the 2018 Toyota Land Cruiser. This full size SUV has been fully overhauled in 2016. So, for the 2018 model year, the Land Cruiser will appear mainly unchanged. However, the rear-seat entertainment system will no longer be standard but optional. As well, the exterior mirrors will fold to the inside when the vehicle is locked.
Generally, the Land Cruiser is a very capable vehicle with excellent off-road manners, very good ride quality and a powerful V-8 engine. However, as for the fuel efficiency, it won’t show such good ratings. The exterior won’t differ much from the current model. Inside, the new Toyota offers very spacious cabin with modern tech features.
The main competitors of the new Toyota will be Lexus LX, Mercedes-Benz GLS, Nissan Armada, Cadillac Escalade and Land Rover Range Rover Velar.
2018 Toyota Land Cruiser engine and performance
When it comes to the drivetrain, the 2018 Toyota Land Cruiser will arrive with one single engine option under its hood. It is a 5.7-liter V-8 engine which is able to develop 381 horsepower and 401 pound-feet of torque. This powertrain pairs with an 8-speed automatic gearbox. The all-wheel drive configuration is standard and it is not available with two-wheel drive systems. It will be able to tow up to 8,100 pounds.
As for the fuel efficiency, the Land Cruiser is very thirsty. It is rated at 13 mpg in the city, 18 mpg on the highway and 15 mpg combined.
Design of exterior and interior
Speaking of the exterior, the 2018 Toyota Land Cruiser will keep its recognizable boxy shape and unique design. The front is dominated by its chrome grille and standard full LED headlamps. The rear end also features nice chrome accents. It will ride on 18-inch alloy wheels.
As for the interior, the 2018 Toyota Land Cruiser offers very spacious cabin with three rows of seats and ability to welcome up to eight passengers. The front and the second row are very roomy and comfortable while the third row is the best for the children. The third row can also fold flat for more cargo space which itself is generally very ample. The seats are upholstered in quality leather and the front ones are heated and cooled too. The dashboard is wide and features a large 9.0-inch touchscreen with infotainment system which is paired with a JBL audio system with 14 speakers.
Furthermore, it will come standard with four-zone climate control, keyless ignition, Bluetooth, navigation, mini fridge in the center console etc. However, this time the rear-seat entertainment system with two 11.6-inch displays and a DVD player will be now optional. The safety will be on the high level too. It includes 10 airbags, a rearview camera, automatic high beams, parking sensors, adaptive cruise control, rear cross-traffic and blind spot monitors.

The 2018 Toyota Land Cruiser will be available later this year. The starting price will be around $83,700.
