2018 Toyota Prius: Release Date, Hybrid, MPG

The one of the Japanese car maker’s most recognizable hybrids on the road will soon join the world’s market. As well, it was the brand’s first hybrids made for mass production. So, this time, we are talking about the new 2018 Toyota Prius which will arrive mostly unchanged. As the 2016 model year, the Prius has been majorly redesigned in exterior styling and it has received upgraded engine under its hood. Furthermore, the 2017 model year has gotten more standard safety features and standard heated front seats. As well, it has been offered in one trim level but available with several packages. Those will include Upgrade, Touring, Technology and Advanced Package.

So, like we have previously mentioned the 2018 Prius will arrive pretty much the same as the current model; and for some larger upgrades, we will have to wait a few years from now.  The main rivals of the Toyota Prius will be Ford C-Mac Hybrid, Chevrolet Malibu, Chevrolet Volt, Toyota Prius Prime and Prius V models.

In the engine department, the 2018 Toyota Prius will be equipped with the same hybrid engine as the outgoing model. It is a 1.8-liter inline-4 unit with the output of 95 hp and which will be combined with an electric motor of 53 kWh. All together, they will be able to make 121 horsepower and the 105 pound-feet of torque. There will also be a nickel-metal-hydride battery pack of 1.2 kWh. The front-wheel drive system will be standard. As for the fuel efficiency, it is rated at 54 mpg in the city, 50 mpg on the highway and 52 mpg combined.

Design of exterior and interior

The Prius has been completely refreshed in 2016, so the 2018 Toyota Prius will continue with the same design. The front end of the vehicle features sleeker and lower nose and unique design of the headlamps. The LED daytime running lights will be standard so as the LED taillights. The rear end is also unique with plenty of details which many find very confusing.

Inside, the 2018 Toyota Prius is able to welcome up to five passengers in very comfortable seats. We must notice that the quality of the Prius’ cabin has been constantly improved. The hard plastic has been replaced with more soft-touch materials. The front seats are more supportive also and the cabin is quieter which provides a more refined ride. The dashboard will feature a 6.1-inch touchscreen with the latest infotainment system. However, it will also be available with a larger 7.0-inch touchscreen with navigation.

As for the equipment, the Toyota will arrive standard with a rearview camera, 4.2-inch information color display, keyless ignition and so on. Speaking of the safety, all models will come standard with eight airbags and hill assist while the blind-spot monitors and rear cross-traffic alert will be available as well.

Release date and price

The 2018 Toyota Prius should arrive sometime during next year. Its price will start at around $23,500 will go up to $30,000 depending on equipment.
