The Japanese car maker has decided to give a few upgrades to the one of their most popular SUVs worldwide. So, this time we will talk about the upcoming 2018 Toyota RAV4. This compact crossover SUV is known for its spaciousness, excellent ride quality and great offer of safety features. As well, it is also available with a hybrid powertrain under its hood which gets better fuel efficiency than the traditional unit.
The all new RAV4 will be available in several trim levels. Those are LE, SE Adventure, XLE, Limited and Platinum trims. The Adventure trim is new for the 2018 model year and adds higher ride height, 18-inch black aluminum wheels, better towing capacity and a few exterior details.
The key competitors of the new Toyota will be Hyundai Santa Fe Sport, Subaru Forester, Mazda CX-5, Honda CR-V, Ford Escape and Hyundai Tucson.
2018 Toyota RAV4 engines and performances
The 2018 Toyota RAV4 will arrive with two types of engines under its hood. The base engine will be a 2.5-liter inline-4. This unit will be able to develop 176 horsepower and 172 pound-feet of torque. It will pair to a six-speed automatic gearbox. It will be available with either front- or all-wheel drive configuration. As for the fuel efficiency, it is rated at 23 mpg in the city 30 mpg on the highway and 26 mpg combined with FWD. With all-wheel drive system, it gets 22/28/25 mpg.
Furthermore, the next option will be a hybrid powertrain. It is a combination of the 2.5-liter inline-4 gas engine and three electric motors. The total output of this unit will be 194 horses and it will be mated to a continuously variable transmission. The all-wheel drive system will be standard for this unit. The hybrid RAV4 will be the most fuel efficient and it gets 34/30/32 mpg.
Design of exterior and interior
When it comes to exterior design, the 2018 Toyota RAV4 will keep its recognizable look which dates since 2015 when it has been slightly restyled. The front end features thin grille and narrow headlamps which give it a bit aggressive appearance. The RAV4 rides on standard 17-inch alloy wheels while the higher trims will be available with larger 18-inch ones.
Inside, the 2018 Toyota RAV4 offers spacious, cozy and modern cabin. It is able to welcome five passengers comfortably. The seats are upholstered in cloth while the higher trims will receive synthetic leather upholstery. The dashboard will feature a 6.1-inch touchscreen but the larger 7.0-inch display will be optional.
As for the equipment, the base model will come standard with Bluetooth, USB, power locks and windows, a rearview camera, automatic emergency braking, forward collision warning, adaptive cruise control etc.
Moving to the higher trims, it will get black-accented interior, automatic climate control, a moonroof, LED headlamps, a surround view camera, keyless ignition and so on. Furthermore, the new RAV4 will be also available with JBL audio system, navigation, blind-spot monitors, parking sensors and so on.
Release date and price
The new 2018 Toyota RAV4 will go on sale in following months. As for the pricing, it will start at around $24,500 and will go up to $40,000 for the top trims.
