2018 Toyota Tacoma: TRD Pro, Changes, Price

The Toyota’s mid size pickup truck with nice off-road capabilities, strong engine, attractive design and excellent towing capacities is soon ready to go on sale. It is the new 2018 Toyota Tacoma. The new Tacoma stands below the larger Tundra model and for the 2018 model year it will bring a few novelties. Firstly, the Toyota Safety Sense Package will now be standard. As well, the higher trims will arrive with some new exterior colors and the midnight black color shade will replace the traditional black in all the trim levels. Furthermore, we can expect small exterior adjustments and the 5-speed manual gearbox will no longer be in offer. The cabin will be cozy and well-done but the space in the rear seats will be a bit tight.

The new Toyota Tacoma will be available in following trims: SR, SR5, TRD Sport, TRD Off Road, Limited and TRD Pro trim levels. Its key rivals will be Honda Ridgeline, GMC Canyon, Nissan Frontier and Chevy Colorado.

2018 Toyota Tacoma engine, performance and fuel economy

Under the hood of the 2018 Toyota Tacoma, there won’t be any changes. It will be available with two types of engines as before. So, the base engine will be a 2.7 inline-4 which will be able to make 159 horses and 180 pound-feet of torque. The engine will pair with either 6-speed manual or 6-speed automatic transmission. The rear-wheel drive system is standard while the all-wheel drive configuration will be optional.

The second option will be a 3.5-liter V-6 which will have the output of 278 hp and the torque of 265 pound-feet. The engine is mated to a six-speed automatic. The new Tacoma will be able to tow up to 6,800 pounds. As for the fuel efficiency, the Tacoma gets 18/23/20 mpg with the larger 3.5-liter V-6 and all-wheel drive system.

Design of exterior and interior

When it comes to exterior, the 2018 Toyota Tacoma will keep the same design as its forerunner. However, it will receive slightly restyled grille in all trims except in the TRD Pro version. Furthermore, the TRD Sport, TRD Off-Road and Limited trims will arrive with a new exterior color: the Cement color shade. Depending on a trim level, the new Tacoma will be available with 16-, 17- and 18-inch wheels.

Inside, the 2018 Toyota Tacoma will be offered in extended and double cab configurations. The cabin is nicely designed, quiet, sufficiently spacious and comfortable. The dashboard will feature a standard 6.1-inch touchscreen. The standard equipment will include USB, Bluetooth, fabric seats, a rearview camera, power windows and locks. Moving to the higher trims, there will be navigation, leather seats, upgraded audio system, moonroof and so on. As for the safety, it comes standard with airbags, a rearview camera, stability and traction control, automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning and automatic high beams.

Release date and price

The 2018 Toyota Tacoma should arrive later this year. Speaking of the pricing, it should start at around $29,500 and will go up to $46,000.
