Engine and performance of the 2019 Lexus NX Hybrid

The 2019 Lexus NX Hybrid will return with its familiar hybrid powertrain which combines a 2.5-liter inline-4 engine with Toyota two-motor hybrid system. The 4-cylinder unit can develop 154 horses and the torque of 152 pound-feet. The front electric motor will have the output of 141 horsepower while the rear one will produce 67 hp. So, the total output of this engine will be 194 horsepower. It will be mated to a continuously variable transmission and the all-wheel drive system will be standard. Furthermore, it will be able to reach 60 mph in 9.1 seconds. As for the fuel economy, this engine is rated at 33 mpg in the city, 30 mpg on the highway, and 31 mpg combined.

Exterior and interior design

The 2018 Lexus NX has received a host of small upgrades in the exterior styling which are mostly visible on the front and lights. So, the 2019 Lexus NX Hybrid will continue with the same design of the current model. The front end will look aggressive and will wear the brand’s well-known large spindle grille and swept-back headlamps with LED daytime running lights in a shape of “L”. However, compared to the standard NX, the hybrid model will feature a bit different design of the grille with a milder pattern of horizontal bars. The sharp styling of the front end continues to the rear fascia which features prominent thin taillights.

The interior of the 2019 Lexus NX Hybrid is comfortable, nicely designed, and quiet. All the seats are cozy and supportive. However, the front ones are much more comfortable than the rear seats. All the materials are quality and luxurious which give it more sophisticated look. There is also plenty of space for storage such as cupholders etc. Behind the seats, the NX comes with 17.7 cubic feet for cargo. With the second row folded down, there is a room of 54.6 cubes. The dashboard is wrapped in soft material and features an 8.0-inch touchscreen for infotainment.

The standard features of all models include dual-zone climate control, 17-inch alloy wheels, an 8.0-inch touchscreen, Bluetooth, power-adjustable front seats, and infotainment controls on the steering wheel. The NX will also be offered with the Comfort package. It adds electrochromic mirrors, rear cross-traffic monitoring, heated and ventilated front seats, and blind-spot alert. The Luxury package will offer a power liftgate, leather upholstery, blind-spot warning, interior wood trim, and self-dimming mirrors. The standard safety equipment will include the Lexus Safety System+ which comes with automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning, and lane-departure alert.
