Previewed as the concept version, Lexus’s first compact crossover SUV has finally been revealed as the production version. The all-new 2019 Lexus UX Crossover has been presented at the 2018 Geneva Motor Show, and after that, it has made its first appearance in the United States at the 2018 New York Auto Show. The new entry-level Lexus will be available in two variants: the UX 200 and the UX 250h version which is powered by a hybrid powertrain. As well, there will also be an optional F Sport trim levels which will add some different cosmetic details and upgrades in the engine department.
The new Lexus UX will look like a smaller version of the larger NX model and will share the same underpinnings with the Toyota C-HR. The aggressive styling of the concept version will also be visible in the production version too. Under the hood, there will be two choices depending on a trim level and the F Sport version will be available with both. The newest Lexus will most likely attract younger buyers because of its maneuverability and good handling. As well, it will compete against BMW X1, Mercedes-Benz GLA, Infiniti QX30, and Audi Q3.
2019 Lexus UX Crossover powertrain
The 2019 Lexus UX Crossover will be available with two engines. The UX 200 will use a 2.0-liter inline-4 which will have the output of 168 horsepower. It will work with a continuously variable transmission and the power will be sent to front wheels. The UX 250h will use a 2.0-liter inline-4 Atkinson cycle engine and electric motors among which the one will be placed on the front and the other on the rear axle. So, the all-wheel drive configuration is standard. This unit will be able to generate 176 horsepower.
Exterior and interior design
The new long-awaited 2019 Lexus UX Crossover will ride on a version of the Toyota New Global Architecture (TNGA). It is the same platform which underpins the Toyota C-HR. Looking from the outside the Lexus UX features aggressive styling with many curves and angular lines. The front end is dominated by the larger, brand’s well-known spindle grille, sharp hood design, and slim LED headlamps. The rear end of the vehicle is very stylish and uniquely designed. There are full-width tail lamps and a pronounced bumper. The new Lexus will ride on 17-inch or 18-inch aluminum wheels. The F Sport version will add the more aggressive design of the grille, side wings and so on.
The interior of the 2019 Lexus UX Crossover will feature a two-tone design and modern technology. All the seats are comfortable and supportive even at long rides. On the center of the dash, there is a large touchscreen with latest infotainment system which is controlled by the touchpad control. As for the safety, the automatic emergency braking and adaptive cruise control will come standard while the active lane control, road-sign recognition, and automatic high-beam headlamps should be available too.
Release date and pricing
The 2019 Lexus UX Crossover should go on sale at the end of this year. The price should be revealed soon. And and we assume that it could start at roughly $30,000 while the hybrid should be around $35,000.
