Able to haul up to eight passengers, the Alphard model is a full-size multi-purpose van (MPV) produced by the Toyota manufacturer since 2002. This 5-door has been changing through three generations among which the first lasted unit 2008. Then the second generation debuted in 2008 and has been present on the market until 2015. This version has gotten more modern exterior styling and luxurious and more sophisticated interior. Furthermore, the third generation Alphard appeared in 2015 with a new appearance and a new engine. This generation has gotten a facelift as the 2018 model year getting an upgraded 3.5-liter V-6 unit and revised exterior. However, the newest 2019 Toyota Alphard has also been announced but this version shouldn’t get any large revisions. For the next generation model and some major upgrades, we will have to wait a couple of years more.
The Toyota Alphard is available with two seating configurations and it is able to welcome either seven or eight passengers. As well, it comes in three model variants which are named Alphard G, Alphard V, and Alphard Hybrid and they differ in the types of engine. So, this minivan comes with inline-4, V-6, and hybrid powertrains. Furthermore, the current version is sold in Japan and some Asian markets. As well, it has been recently introduced in Russia and Europe but with a V-6 only, for now.
Engines and performances of the 2019 Toyota Alphard
There shouldn’t be any surprises or changes when it comes to the engine of the newest 2019 Toyota Alphard. And there are three engines in the offer. The base is a 2.5-liter inline-4 which is able to produce 150 horses and the torque of 173 pound-feet. The next is a 3.5-liter V-6 engine. This one can produce up to 296 hp and 266 pound-feet of torque. The hybrid version will combine a 2.5-liter inline-4 engine and an electric motor. All together they will be able to make 179 and 152 pound-feet of torque. The first engine will work with a 7-speed super CVT while the V-6 will be mated to an 8-speed automatic. The hybrid engine will pair with a CVT.
Design of exterior and interior
The 2019 Toyota Alphard is a true minivan with its boxy appearance and square design. The front fascia is fitted with a massive, distinctive grille which very much looks like the one in the Toyota Crown and large headlamps also. This time, any changes aren’t expected, but we will find out more after the company’s official announcement.
The cabin of the 2019 Toyota Alphard is known for its spaciousness, practicality, and comfort. Depending on a seating configuration, it can welcome either seven or eight passengers. It features a bunch of the latest infotainment and safety systems. Some of the include Bluetooth, parking sensors, multi-information touchscreen, a rearview camera, JBL, Toyota Safety Sense system and so on.
Release date and price
We cannot say for sure when exactly the 2019 Toyota Alphard will hit the market. The pricing shouldn’t differ much from the current one. The 2018 model hybrid is priced at around $109,900 while the V-6 model costs around $65,000.
