The Japanese manufacturer will soon present its all-new 2019 Toyota Auris Hybrid. Compared to the second generation, the 2019 model year will bring various upgrades. First of all, the new Auris will ride on the new platform which will make it larger than before and its exterior will be redesigned with sleeker, more angular, and generally more attractive appearance. Inside the cabin, we also expect some changes including a new touchscreen and more space for the passengers. In the engine front, the Auris will offer two hybrid engines alongside the traditional non-hybrid unit.
Engines and performances of the 2019 Toyota Auris Hybrid
The 2019 Toyota Auris Hybrid is available with two types of engines under its hood. The one option is a 1.8-liter 4-cylinder gasoline engine combined with an electric motor which also powers the Toyota Prius and Toyota C-HR models. This unit will be able to produce 122 horsepower. The second option is more powerful and it is a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder hybrid unit. This one can develop around 180 horsepower. The engines will work with a continuously variable transmission.
As for the handling, it will be much improved because of the lower center of gravity and a more rigid body which is made of high-strength steel.
Platform and exterior design
The 2019 Toyota Auris Hybrid will be based on the TNGA platform which also underpins the C-HR and Prius models. So, the new Auris is now slightly larger than its predecessor, for 1.57 inches. So because of the larger wheelbase, the Toyota Auris now looks sportier and longer and it doesn’t feature a wagon-like shape as before. As well, its height has dropped to around 1.85 inches. This will also affect the interior which will now be more spacious.
In the terms of exterior design, the 2019 Toyota Auris Hybrid differs significantly from the previous generation model. It has a lower roof and a longer body and now seems more handsome, sleeker and sportier. From the instant, we can notice some similar styling elements borrowed from the Camry model, especially on the front fascia and larger grille. There is also new round fog lights and elongated headlamps with LED lighting which look really nice. The rear end also looks very similar to the 2018 Camry model. And it features new taillights which are similar to the headlights in design and there are new small exhaust pipes. The taillights will also be equipped with LED lighting.
The interior of the 2019 Toyota Auris Hybrid
First of all, as we have said previously, the 2019 Toyota Auris Hybrid will now receive more spacious interior because of the larger architecture. So, it will provide more comfort for all the passengers and slightly roomier cargo space. Furthermore, the tablet-style touchscreen for the infotainment system will now be placed higher on the center console and the air vents will be positioned below the display.
Release date and price
The carmaker is currently testing its 2019 Toyota Auris Hybrid and it is expected to go on sale at the end of this year. The price should be in a range between $18,000 and $30,000.
