The current FJ Cruiser debuted back in 2014 and since then it hasn’t been changed because Toyota Company discontinued it. However, according to some sources, it seems that the carmaker is planning to redesign it and bring it back to the market. So, if these rumors appear to be true then we could expect the new 2019 Toyota FJ Cruiser.
The FJ Cruiser features unique and retro styling which is recognizable from the instant. Inside the cabin, it gets a simple design which is stylish and pleasant. One of its primary characteristics is its excellent off-road capability. Under the hood, it is powered by strong V-6 unit and there is an option between two transmissions. So, for the newest 2019 model year, we can expect more tech features in order to be more modern. The exterior styling will most likely stay close to the current model but there could be some small adjustments. Several new exterior colors could be expected too.
The key rivals of the FJ Cruiser will remain Toyota 4Runner, Nissan Xterra, Jeep Wrangler, and Jeep Grand Cherokee.
Engine and performance of 2019 Toyota FJ Cruiser
The 2019 Toyota FJ Cruiser should arrive with the same engine as its predecessor. It is a 4.0-liter V-6 engine. This unit is able to produce 260 horses and 271 pound-feet of torque. There will be a choice between a 5-speed automatic and a 6-speed manual transmission. Furthermore, it will be available with rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive configurations. As for the fuel economy, with rear-wheel drive, it gets 17 mpg in the city and 22 mpg on the highway. With all-wheel drive, the numbers go down for 1 mpg.
Design of exterior and interior
The Toyota FJ Cruiser looks unique and special. It is recognizable on the road by its retro styling and bulky design. The front end features small mesh grille, massive bumper, and well-known rounded headlamps. The rear end is squarish and dominated by the large bumper and small taillights. However, the 2019 Toyota FJ Cruiser could bring some small refreshments but it will definitively keep its recognizable shape and design.
The interior of the 2019 Toyota FJ Cruiser will be simple as always but this time it should bring more tech features. The space inside the cabin is not its major quality since the rear seats are a bit crowded. The front ones are cozy but not that supportive as expected. As well, the Cruiser lacks in cargo space.
Among standard equipment, there will be air conditioning, front and rear tow-hooks, mudguards, water-resistant seats, Bluetooth, audio system with six speakers, USB and so on. The Convenience package will add daytime running lights, cruise control, a reverse camera, a cover for the spare, and a rear window wiper. The Toyota Racing Development sport package will include unique alloy wheels with BFG all-terrain tires.
Release date and price
The carmaker still hasn’t revealed when the 2019 Toyota FJ Cruiser should go on sale. Its price should be slightly higher than the price of its forerunner which is around $47,000.
