2019 Toyota GT86: Design, Powertrain, Release Date

For those who love small sports cars which are fun to drive and look very attractive, then you might want to check out the newest 2019 Toyota GT86. Compared to the base 86, the GT86 is better equipped and features more infotainment features and better materials. Although it is not a high-performance vehicle, the GT86 provides sufficient performance and it is quick. This iconic car also comes with a very reasonable price, which will definitively attract younger buyers.

There is one engine option available for the 2019 Toyota GT86. However, it comes with a choice of manual and automatic transmissions and therefore, it gets two performances. The engine is a 2.0-liter flat-4 which can make 205 hp and the torque of 156 pound-feet when connected with a 6-speed manual transmission. This unit gets 21 mpg in the city and 28 mpg combined.

On the other hand, this same engine paired with a 6-speed automatic gearbox is able to develop 200 horsepower and 151 pound-feet. It is rated at 24 mpg in the city and 32 mpg on the highway. Furthermore, lately, we could hear the stories about the hybrid version of this model since the Toyota manufacturer is working on the next generation of the batteries. But we assume that we won’t see it before the year 2020 or even 2021.

Design of exterior and interior

Visually, the Toyota GT86 features very similar design to the Subaru BRX model although some changes are visible on the front fascia. It is a typical sports car which sleek roofline, wide fenders, and long hood. The front end is dominated by its long and low hood and distinctive design of the headlamps.

The 2019 Toyota GT86 will be available in two trim levels: the GT86 and GT 86 Black Edition versions. They are both better equipped than the standard Toyota 86. As for the interior design, the new Toyota comes with a simple design and the accent is put on the driver and the front passenger. So, it is basically a two-seater since the second row is very tight and can be folded flat for more cargo space which offers the room of only 6.9 cubic feet.  The GT86 comes with synthetic suede upholstery. The dashboard is fitted with a 7.0-inch touchscreen for infotainment system.

The base 86 comes standard with power features, LED taillights, 17-inch wheels, a rearview camera, Bluetooth, manually adjustable front seats, cloth, and a 7.0-inch touchscreen. The GT86 will add synthetic suede upholstery, keyless ignition, contrast stitching, dual-zone climate control, a 4.2-inch driver information system, and a leather-wrapped gear shifter and steering wheel. The GT86 will add black mirror caps and other details. As for the safety, all the models will include six airbags, a rearview camera, and stability and traction control systems.

Release date and price

It is still not confirmed, but the 2019 Toyota GT86 could arrive sometime during next year. Its price is rated at around $29,300.
