The Toyota IQ is a well-known small hatchback known for its great maneuverability, excellent interior space despite its size, and good engine options. Thanks to its small dimensions, the IQ is a good choice for everyday city driving and it is easy to park. The latest news has announced that the carmaker will soon offer the newest version which will hit the market as the 2019 Toyota IQ. However, this time, we don’t expect any major changes.
Engines and performances of the 2019 Toyota IQ
On the engine front, the upcoming 2019 Toyota IQ will return with three types of engines as before. And there are two petrol and one diesel engine. So, the one is a 1.0-liter 3-cylinder petrol engine which is able to develop 67 horses and 72 pound-feet of torque. This unit is paired with a 5-speed manual transmission as standard while the CVT is also available. As well, it can go from 0 to 60 mph in 14.7 seconds.
The next is a 1.33-liter petrol powertrain which has the output of 97 hp and the torque of 91 pound-feet of torque. This one works with a 6-speed manual and the continuously variable transmission is also optional. It will be able to hit 60 mph in 11.8 seconds. Furthermore, the last one is diesel and it is a 1.4-liter engine. This engine will be able to produce 89 ponies and the torque of 140 lb-ft. The 6-speed manual is also standard and a CVT optional. For this engine, it needs 10.7 seconds to hit 60 mph. The front-wheel drive configuration is standard while the all-wheel drive is also offered as an option.
Design of exterior and interior
The 2019 Toyota IQ is a three-door hatchback recognizable for its small dimensions which makes it a perfect choice for everyday city driving. As well, it is easy to park and maneuver. As for the exterior design, there is not much to say. The IQ keeps up with its familiar boxy shape, short hood, and highly positioned headlamps. However, the 2019 model year might get some small adjustments in order to look refreshed.
Speaking of the interior design, we are quite surprised the space inside the cabin of the 2019 Toyota IQ. Despite its small dimensions, the Toyota IQ offers a surprisingly spacious cabin and can accommodate four passengers. The passenger’s seat offers more space compared to the driver’s seat and can also move forward which allows more room for the rear seat passenger. Behind the drive, the IQ can place a child or a smaller adult. Furthermore, the dashboard features an 8.4-inch touchscreen on most of the trim levels.
As for the equipment, the 2019 Toyota IQ is now also available with an optionally heated steering wheel and heated and power-adjustable front seats on the base trim levels. The cloth upholstery is standard.
Release date and price
The 2019 Toyota IQ might be presented sometime during next year, but it still needs to be confirmed. The price should stay close to the current model which starts at around $16,300.
