2019 Toyota Prius C: Changes, Review, Arrival

The Toyota Prius C is a compact hatchback which is one of the most affordable hybrids in the brand’s lineup. The current model is now in its seventh year and has just been revealed as the 2018 version. The 2018 Prius C has received a revised look with black side rockers, black roof rails, and some silver accents which gave it more sporty appearance. In the technology department, a rearview camera is now standard in all the trim levels. And those are called One, Two, Three, and Four models. On the other hand, lately, we could hear the speculations that the current version could be the last model year.  However, according to some sources, the 2019 Toyota Prius C is under development and it is going to bring some upgrades also.

As, if this news is true, the newest Prius C should be moved to the new platform which will allow some new engine options or at least a revised current unit. As well, it is still not clear if it is going to be more fuel efficient this time. Speaking of the equipment, the standard equipment in the 2018 model will also stay the same for the 2019 model year.

The newest 2019 Toyota Prius C might be based on the new TGNA platform. And thanks to the new architecture we could expect some changes on this front. However, it is still not known whether the Prius will get a new unit or an upgraded version of the current model. And perhaps, there won’t be any changes. So, it could be powered by the same 1.5-liter inline-4 unit in a combination with an electric motor of 45 kWh and a 0.9 kWh battery pack. The total output of this unit is 99 horses. As for the fuel efficiency, it gets 48 mpg in the city and 43 mpg on the highway.

Design of exterior and interior

The 2019 Toyota Prius C will return with the same styling as the 2018 model year which has gotten sportier and more conservative styling. It has received black roof rails, black wheel-arch moldings, and side rockers. As well, it now rides on the new 15-inch 8-spoke machined alloy wheels with dark grey accents.

The interior of the 2019 Toyota Prius C will feature cozy and supportive front seats. The rear seats will be able to accommodate two adults or three children. The cargo area has the space of 17.1 cubic feet which is twice larger with the rear seats folded down. Furthermore, the dashboard is equipped with a 6.1-inch touchscreen. As for the equipment, it comes standard with power windows, locks, and mirrors, automatic climate control, keyless entry, LED headlamps and taillights, a rearview camera, and USB. The higher trims add satellite and HD radio, navigation, cruise control and so on. A moonroof comes as an option.

Release date and price

It is not yet official, but the 2019 Toyota Prius C might arrive this fall. Its starting price is expected to be around $20,500 and will go up to $25,500.
