Under the hood, the 2019 Toyota Prius Prime will get the same engine which powers the current model year. It is a 1.8-liter 4-cylinder engine which can develop 95 hp and 105 lb-ft of torque combined with two electric motors of 53- and 23-kWh and a battery pack of 8.8 kWh. So the total output of this unit is 121 horsepower. This plug-in hybrid engine can go up to 25 miles on all-electric power. Furthermore, it can reach 60 mph in around 10 seconds. This engine works with a continuously variable transmission and comes with front-wheel drive configuration. As for the fuel economy, it gets 55 mpg in the city, 53 mpg on the highway, and 54 mpg combined. In EV mode it is rated at 133 MPGe.
External design and interior
Design-wise, the 2019 Toyota Prius Prime will return with its angular design and aggressive appearance. The front end sports a unique design of the grille and sleek and slim LED headlamps which give it very modern look. On the rear end, there is horizontal wraparound LED taillights which look very attractive and distinctive. It rides on the standard 15-inch wheels.

The upcoming 2019 Toyota Prius Prime comes in three trim levels including the base Plus, mid-range Premium and top-line Advanced. The Prius Prime Plus starts with a 7.0-inch touchscreen, USB port, Bluetooth, heated front seats, automatic climate control, LED headlamps, cloth seats, audio system with 6 speakers, satellite radio, 15-inch wheels, and keyless access. The Toyota Safety Sense P is also standard and it includes lane departure warning, automatic high beams, full-speed adaptive cruise control, and pre-collision with pedestrian detection.
The Premium model adds leather upholstery, an 11.6-inch screen, a power driver’s seat, wireless smartphone charging, and keyless entry. The Prius Prime Advanced model will come with a premium JBL sound system, rear cross-traffic alert, parking sensors, automatic wipers, a heated steering wheel, and so on.
Release date and price
There is still no information when the 2019 Toyota Prius Prime should go on sale. But it might be sometime during next year. Its price will most likely start at around $28,000.
