Sometime during next year, we are hoping to see the new 2020 Toyota 4Runner. However, compared to the current model, the 2020 model year probably won’t differ majorly. The exterior and interior design will stay pretty much the same and it could only get some new exterior colors. Beneath the hood, all the trim levels will feature the same V-6 unit. Furthermore, we can expect more standard and optional features this time.
Engine and performance of the 2020 Toyota 4Runner
Like the previous model year, the new 2020 Toyota 4Runner is expected to carry on with the same engine and there is one single option for all the models. It is a well-known 4.0-liter V-6 engine which is able to make 270 horsepower and the torque of 278 lb-ft. The engine is linked to a 5-speed automatic transmission and comes with a choice between two drivetrains. The SR5 and Limited models will get a rear-wheel drive configuration as standard while the all-wheel drive system will be optional. The 4Runner will be able to tow up to 5,000 pounds. When it comes to fuel economy, the rear-wheel drive variant will get 17 mpg in the city and 21 mpg on the highway. The all-wheel drive model will be rated at 17 mpg in the city and 20 mpg on the highway.
Design of exterior and interior
In terms of exterior design, the upcoming 2020 Toyota 4Runner will keep with its recognizable aggressive, boxy and rugged appearance as the current model. The front end will wear the familiar large grille, prominent headlamps with indentations in a shape of a boomerang bellow. The Limited models will get more chrome accents while the TRD trims will feature a slightly different hood and will provide more ground clearance, for around 9.6 inches. The roof racks will be standard in all the versions of the 4Runner. However, the 2020 model year get some novelties such as a few more exterior color shades.
The interior of the 2020 Toyota 4Runner will be spacious and functional as in its forerunner. The SR5 and Limited trim levels will offer a three-row seating configuration with the capacity to place up to seven passengers. However, the third row will be the best for kids. The rear seats will be able to fold down which will expand the cargo room to nearly 90 cubic feet. The cloth seats will be standard and the leather upholstery will be available in the higher trim levels.
The base equipment of all the 4Runners will include a 6.1-inch touchscreen for the infotainment, a power adjustable driver’s seat, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and power features. The Premium model will add navigation and synthetic leather seats while a power moonroof and third row of seats will be optional. The range-topping models will add raised suspension, heated front seats, 20-inch alloy wheels, leather upholstery, a JBL audio system, a power moonroof, and so on.
Release date and price
It is still not confirmed, but the new 2020 Toyota 4Runner might appear on the market sometime during next year. The price probably won’t change much from the current model which starts at around $35,000.
