After more than two generations of waiting, the new Supra is finally here. The fifth generation of the iconic sports car is ready to hit the market this summer and there is a whole bunch of interesting things to come with it. Of course, the first thing that comes to mind os cooperation with the Bavarian carmaker, but the new 2020 Toyota GR Supra will be much more than that. Genuine Japanese styling philosophy and strong performances are naturally in the focus, but the manufacturer promises that the new model will also be a quite usable car for a daily ride.
2020 Toyota GR Supra Design
Let’s start with the styling. Without any doubt, the new 2020 Toyota Supra looks like a real Japanese sports car. The first thing that you’ll notice about it is a lot of curves. There’s no doubt that the company wanted to resemble the previous model as close as possible. Simply, that generation is considered to be one of the most iconic sports cars of all time, due to not just amazing look, but also to a spectacular engine potential. After all, this is still the tuners’ most favorite car. The new model keeps that aesthetical tradition. Speaking of the aesthetical tradition, our biggest complaint is about the rear end, as we expected to see some oversized spoiler once again. We hope it will find its place on some hi-performance version in the future. However, things are a little bit different under the skin.
Unlike the previous generations that were 100% Japanese cars, this one heavily relies on design solutions from BMW. More precisely, it rides on the same platform as the new Z4 and shares most of mechanics, including the engine. However, Toyota did make some additional modifications, particularly in terms of new suspensions, which should turn this coupe into a read gran tourer.
The cabin is probably our biggest disappointment about the new 2020 Toyota Supra. Don’t get us wrong, it is amazing and features very high overall quality. Unfortunately, Toyota designers didn’t put any effort to make it distinctive. Instead, the dashboard is the same as in the Z4, as well as the most other parts of the cabin. Also, keep in mind that the new model is a two-seater, while the MkIV was a 2+2 coupe.
2020 Toyota GR Supra Engine
When it comes to the 2020 Toyota GR Supra specs, the engine is a bit of a surprise. The previous generation features the fammous 2JZ V6 engine, one of the most legendary units in the history of the automotive industry, famous for its stupendous tuning potential. When it comes to the 2020 Toyota GR Supra hp, the new model will use BMW’s familiar 3.0-liter inline-six, which is good for about 335 horsepower. It will come in pair with 8-speed automatic transmission, and the new model should be able to hit 60 in about 4.1 seconds. We expect some hi-performance version in the future as well.
2020 Toyota GR Supra Release Date and Price
We expect to see the new model on the market this summer. When it comes to the 2020 Toyota GR Supra price, base models will go around 50.000 dollars.
