We can find various kinds of reports about the next-year version of the iconic pickup truck. Some of them suggest changes, others suggest it could come to North America. However, we are pretty sure that the 2020 Toyota Hilux will carry on in the same way, without more important changes. The current, eighth generation has been around since 2015, but we saw a facelift already two years later. This leads us to the conclusion that there isn’t much room for further upgrades at the moment.
Most likely, the current model will continue with the same design for another couple of years, so count on the 2020 Toyota Hilux with familiar design and features. Of course, we could see tweaks in terms of standard equipment and maybe some new color options, but things will remain pretty much the same. Therefore, expect to see it on the market sometime late in the year.
2020 Toyota Hilux Design
Some reports suggest changes, but we are pretty sure that the 2020 Toyota Hilux will continue in the same way. The current generation has been around since 2015, but we saw a facelift last year. It included some interesting changes, mainly in terms of aesthetics. Of course, most of the changes came at the front end. The most notable is a new grille, which comes with the new shape that closely resembles the North American truck Toyota Tacoma. Besides new grille, this update has brought a new front bumper, which features a little bit different shape, with new air intakes and fog lights.
Rest of the truck remained pretty much untouched. The Hilux is a quintessential pickup truck, the biggest legend of the segment. Therefore, its base design characteristics are pretty familiar to anyone who knows a little bit about trucks. Like previous versions, the 2020 Toyota Hilux will also continue with different body styles, with either single or two rows, two or four doors, different bed sizes etc.
Some reports suggest a new 2020 Toyota Hilux TRD performance version but we haven’t heard anything from the officials yet.
2020 Toyota Hilux Interior
The Hilux is an old-school truck. Therefore, its cabin is pretty basic. You won’t find any fancy crossover-like cues, this model is rather practical. Therefore, the dashboard design seems pretty basic. It may even look blend to some. On the other side, it is very functional and extremely durable. Materials may be hard on touch, but the quality is impressive, so we have no doubt that the 2020 Toyota Hilux interior will last for decades.
As we already mentioned, there are different cab layouts. In all cases, you can count on a high level of comfort, especially in double cab versions, which offer plenty of convenience to passengers in the second row as well. The list of standard equipment is pretty long, although not as in the North American Tacoma. Still, you can count most of the latest tech goodies, as well as on the famous Safety Sense package, which is standard across the whole range of models.
2020 Toyota Hilux Engines
The 2020 Toyota Hilux will continue to be offered all around the world. Therefore, the list of engines is pretty long, so the truck can be adapted to every market in the world. In most cases, drivers choose a diesel version, so it’s no wonder that a 2.8-liter unit is the most popular choice. This engine delivers around 177 horsepower and 330 pound-feet of torque. On some markets, you can also find an older-generation 3.0-liter turbodiesel, which delivers 165 horsepower and 270 pound-feet of torque, and offers excellent reliability. A few more diesel options are available on specific markets as well.
On the other side, gasoline lineup consists of two familiar units. Base models are equipped with a familiar 2.7-liter gasoline engine, which delivers around 160 horsepower and 180 pound-feet of torque. Another well-known engine is an optional 4.0-liter V6, which is good for about 240 horsepower and 275 pound-feet of torque. This engine is well-known for its spectacular reliability and durability.
2020 Toyota Hilux Release Date and Price
Considering that there are no bigger changes to see for the next year, the 2020 Toyota Hilux release date should be scheduled for the last quarter of 2019. The price varies from market to market, but base models usually go between 25.000 and 30.000 dollars.
Some of the main rivals are models like Nissan Navara, Mitsubishi L200, Isuzu D-Max, Chevy Colorado, Ford Ranger etc.
Is there a chance to see the 2020 Toyota Hilux in North America?
As we already mentioned, several reports suggest that we could see the 2020 Toyota Hilux USA versions. However, Tacoma already dominates in this part of the world, so there is really no need for such a move. The company would rather introduce a diesel version of Tacoma than introduce this truck to a completely new market.
