The world is getting ready for the new 2020 Toyota Supra, which is coming back after a way too long hiatus that lasted for almost two decades. Therefore, expectations from the new model are huge, at least when it comes to real car enthusiasts. The Supra is one of the legendary sports cars and with such reputation, expectations are always big. The new model comes with plenty of advanced design solutions, which are products of the cooperation between Toyota and BMW. As you probably know, Bavarian carmaker took a huge part in the development of this car.
2020 Toyota Supra Design
In terms of base design characteristics, the new 2020 Toyota Supra has a lot of Bavarian DNA. This model rides on the same architecture as the new BMW Z4, which includes almost complete mechanics. The two models are familiar in so many ways, but Toyota left a huge mark in this aspect as well. This particularly refers to suspension, which comes from Toyota’s performance division, Gazoo Racing. Light body, low center of gravity, 50:50 weight distribution and quality components are some of the things that guarantee amazing performances.
In terms of aesthetics, the new 2020 Toyota Supra sticks to its roots. That means an extremely curvaceous design, which characterized the previous model as well. Still, keep in mind that the new model rides on BMW chassis, so it’s not hard to notice that the roofline somehow looks a little bit higher than it should be. On the other side, the front face looks pretty familiar and comes with trails of the brand’s design language that exists for some time, in the form of GT 86. Still, keep in minds that everything is significantly upgraded here.
The cabin is probably the most obvious indicator that this car has a lot to do with BMW. The interior design is practically a genuine Bavarian layout, and that is most notable on the dashboard, which looks something you’ve seen in several models from the German carmaker before. Even the center stack looks pretty much identical to the new Z4 and it is characterized by a tablet-like touchscreen and a gear shifter that is also pretty much the same. Practically, the only major difference is Toyota’s steering wheel.
2020 Toyota Supra Engine
Once again, a BMW-sourced part. The 2020 Toyota Supra will come with a familiar 3.0-liter six-cylinder unit from the German carmaker. It delivers around 335 horsepower and 365 pound-feet of torque. It is paired to an 8-speed automatic transmission that comes with paddle shifters. The power goes directly to rear wheels. Such combination should be able to ensure 0-60 time in about four seconds, while the max speed will probably be electronically limited. Some reports also suggest some more basic version in the future, probably offered with a four-cylinder engine. At this point, we don’t have any details about this rumor, while the company’s management is still quiet on this matter.
Release Date and Price
We expect to see the new 2020 Toyota Supra on sale this summer. Fortunately, we already know the price and the base model will go around 50.000 dollars.
