The Japanese manufacturer is working on the new Tacoma model and this time we are hoping to see a diesel version as well. So, the new 2020 Toyota Tacoma Diesel should get the same diesel unit found in the Hilux model. However, the exterior and interior won’t be much different in comparison to the standard Tacoma.
Engine and performance of the new 2020 Toyota Tacoma Diesel
The newest Toyota Tacoma will finally get a diesel engine according to the latest news. So, if the rumors appear to be true, the upcoming 2020 Toyota Tacoma Diesel will get the same diesel unit which powers the Hilux model as well. And it is a 2.8-liter turbocharged inline-4 engine. This unit has the output of around 177 horses. On the other hand, the standard Tacoma will be offered with the same engines as the outgoing model and there are two options. The one is a 2.7-liter inline-4 engine which is able to make 159 horses and 180 lb-ft of torque. It will work with a 6-speed automatic gearbox and it will available with rear-wheel and all-wheel drive configurations.
The next is a 3.5-liter V-6 unit. And this engine has the output of 278 hp and the torque of 265 lb-ft. It will be linked to either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic gearbox. It will also be offered with a choice between rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive configurations.
2020 Toyota Tacoma Diesel exterior and interior styling
The well-known rugged but attractive exterior styling will continue with the upcoming 2020 Toyota Tacoma Diesel. And the diesel model won’t be different compared to the standard model. So, as before, it will be available in extended and crew cab configurations. The front end will get the tall and vertical grille with swept-back headlights. There will also be the LED daytime running lights which will give it a more modern look. Depending in a trim level, each model will feature the unique front end. Furthermore, the Toyota Tacoma will ride on the standard 16-inch wheels.
Moving inside the cabin, the 2020 Toyota Tacoma will be made of high-quality materials and it is available with a 5-foot short bed in extended cab model while the crew cabs will be offered with either short bed or a 6-foot long bed. Depending on a model you choose, the Tacoma will provide sufficient room although the leg room is a bit limited for the rear seat passengers.
The standard equipment of the new Tacoma will include a 6.1-inch touchscreen for the infotainment system, eight airbags, pre-collision system with pedestrian detection, automatic high beams, lane departure warning, a rearview camera, a lockable tailgate, and many other items. The higher trims will add a JBL sound system, blind-spot monitoring, push-button start, a 7.0-inch touchscreen, navigation, alloy wheels, dual-zone climate control, and so on.
