Based on the latest rumors, the 2020 Toyota Tacoma is expected to hit the market sometime by the end of next year. However, there is still no official information whether the 2020 model year will get a major overhaul, or it will only get some small upgrades. But, we assume that this time it could only get some minor changes in the tech department. As well, some sources also claim that it might get a diesel variant as well. But it is not officially confirmed.
The engines and performances of the 2020 Toyota Tacoma
Like in its predecessor, under the hood of the 2020 Toyota Tacoma will be placed two types of engines. The base is a 2.7-liter inline-4 engine which is able to generate 159 horsepower and 180 pound-feet of torque. This engine is mated to a six-speed automatic transmission and comes with a choice between rear-wheel and all-wheel drive layouts. The AWD model is rated at 19/23 mpg while the all-wheel drive model gets 19/22 mpg in the city/highway drive.
The next is a 3.5-liter V-6 unit and it can make 278 hp and the torque of 265 lb-ft. This one is paired with either a six-speed manual or a six-speed automatic transmission. Connected to an automatic gearbox and RWD it gets 19/24 mpg while with the same transmission and AWD, it is rated at 18/23 mpg. Witt manual gearbox, this engine gets 17 mpg in the city and 20 mpg on the highway.
On the other hand, since the Chevy Colorado and GMC Canyon come with diesel engines as well, the new Tacoma might also offer a diesel variant. But this information is not officially confirmed.
Design of exterior and interior
With its unique and distinctive styling, the 2020 Toyota Tacoma is definitively a vehicle which you cannot be mix with any other mid-size SUV. It is offered in extended and crew cab configurations and comes with a 5-foot bed in the crew cab model. However, the extended cabs come with a 6-foot bed. As far as the exterior design is concerned, the front end wears the tall and vertical grille, prominent headlamps with modern LED daytime running lights. However, depending on a trim level, each model will feature a unique styling of the front fascia.
As expected from the Japanese carmaker, the 2020 Toyota Tacoma offers quality and well-equipped cabin. It comes with two rows of seats and a bed. The dashboard features a dynamic design and controls are easy to use and interesting. There is a standard 6.1-inch touchscreen for the infotainment system In the center of it. The standard equipment of all the models will include power features, eight airbags, a tilt-telescoping steering wheel, automatic high beams, a rearview camera, pre-collision warning, lane departure warning, and so on.
The higher trims will add a 7.0-inch touchscreen, navigation. They will also be equipped with a locking rear differential, keyless ignition, alloy wheels, dual-zone climate control, blind-spot monitors, leather seats, and so on.
Release date and price
The new 2020 Toyota Tacoma might arrive sometime at the end of 2019. The starting price is expected to be around $27,000, which is close to the current model.
