The new 2020 Toyota Yaris has been announced for the next year, and this time should bring some small upgrades. Those will mostly be visible in the exterior styling with some new details and maybe a few more color options. Like before, it will be available in sedan and hatchback versions. As for the engine, the carmaker won’t make any changes this time.
Engine and performance of the 2020 Toyota Yaris
The 2020 Toyota Yaris will enter the market with one single option which is the same one found in the previous models. It is a 1.5-liter 4-cylinder unit which is able to develop 106 hp and 103 lb-ft of torque. The engine will be linked to either a 5-speed manual gearbox or a 4-speed automatic transmission. The front-wheel drive system will be standard as before. Connected to a five-speed manual gearbox, it gets 30 mpg and 36 mpg on the highway. With the automatic gearbox, it is rated at 30 mpg in the city and 35 mpg on the highway.
Furthermore, the sedan version will use the same engine and with direct injection, but it will be coupled with a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic transmission. The sedan with automatic will get 32/40/35 mpg. The sedan with a manual gearbox will be rated at 30 mpg in the city, 39 on the highway, and 34 combined.
Exterior and interior
The 2020 Toyota Yaris will most likely get just some minimal changes and it will be offered as the 3-door and 5-door model. However, the 5-door model will look a bit sportier than the other version. Design-wise, the front end now looks more aggressive than before, and this time it might get slightly revised grille and headlights. The SE model will feature black trim and a rear spoiler which will give it a sportier and more premium look. The mid-range and range-topping trims will get standard fog lights with lower bumper and power side view mirrors. The heated mirrors with LED turn signals will also be standard on the higher trim levels. It will ride on 16-inch alloy wheels and perhaps it might get some new exterior colors.
Depending on a model meaning sedan or hatchback, the 2020 Toyota Yaris will offer a decent cabin space and comfortable front seats. The cargo room in the sedan model measures 13.5 cubic feet while the hatchback will offer a bit more space but with the second seats folded down. The sedan will feature a 7.0-inch touchscreen for the infotainment system while the hatchback will get a 6.1-inch display.
Speaking of the equipment, the base sedan will come standard with cruise control power features. A split-folding rear seats while the LE trim will add alloy wheels, keyless ignition, and so on. The hatchback will get Bluetooth, power features, air conditioning, and the LED will feature cruise control, alloy wheels, and so on. The range-topping trims will also include navigation, leather-wrapped steering wheel, larger wheels, and a few more items.
Release date and pricing
The 2020 Toyota Yaris should debut in the second half of 2019. The price probably won’t differ much from the current which starts at $16,500.
